Italiano Wave and Why I Love Custom Orders

I tend to be one of those people who get set into limited color ways.

I get obsessed with a certain color and then make, wear and exhaust all the available color options.

That is why I love custom orders so much!

They enable me to step out of the current color trench, I've dug myself into and try something different.

I'm able to experiment and try something that I may never have even dream of doing but, turns out to be something amazing.

For this week's custom order, I had a request from the lovely Amanda to create a wave blanket in the colors of the Italian flag.

After much deliberation we decided to not use the regular color repeats of the past wave blankets.

I was afraid it would look like a Christmas blanket, with the red and green beside each other.

I think it was a good decision because, the traditional flag layout with the wave pattern is stunning --- in my opinion of course, but I'm slightly bias.

Charlotte Wave Blanket

Named after the most girly character on sex and the city, the Charlotte Wave is by far the most feminine blanket I have made to date.

And I love it!

I used the lovely wave crochet pattern

A mid tone pink as well as a light pink, and a cream to balance them off,

I used my favorite yarn blend of super soft wool and acrylic, perfect for sensitive skin.

Midnight Waves Blanket

I have been working with a very special client for two custom baby blankets.
The first a neutral color pallet and the second for a baby boy.

This week I created the neutral blanket and love the way it turned out.

The color pallet goes from a vibrant turquoise all the way to a midnight grey.

I am loving making these wave blankets, they are simple yet so effective.

What do you think, does it make you want to take a Midnight sail?

The Kimberley Wave Blanket

https://www.etsy.com/shop/megsmadeit

Last weekend I had one of the best experiences of my life. I went on a retreat, a weekend filled with good healthy food, activities designed to revitalize and unplug body and mind, and most importantly an amazing group of women. It was called The Revive Retreat and it turned out to be the best thing I ever did for myself.

During my time at the retreat I created this little beauty, and am so happy with the way it turned out.

It is a tranquil blend of soothing mint and cream, with a hint of vibrant coral to liven things up. Made in a traditional wave pattern, this blanket is sure to float little ones to a deep and soothing sleep.

I named the blanket after the town we were staying in for the retreat thus The Kimberley Wave Blanket was born.

It's going to be hard to say goodbye to this blanket after such an amazing experience making it but, I know that the child who receives it will love it even more than I do.

Made with a premium wool and acrylic blend, the blanket is super soft, easy care (washable) and able to stand up to years on love from a child.

It measures 31.5" in width x 33" in length, perfect for babies, strollers and napping blankets for children.

This ultra hot pink was the inspiration for the entire collection.
I was tired of using "baby" colors to make children's blankets so decided to punch up the color pallet

This ocean/teal blue is perfect for boy babies and toddlers alike. The vibrant blue is pleasing for their Mama's too!

This color was by far the most difficult to capture correctly. Its a beautiful deep Royal Purple, close to an eggplant color.

There is nothing better

I love it when mom's send me photo's of their children with the items I've made.

There really is nothing better than seeing something you put so much love into making, being used.

This was one of the first pop of colour blankets I made, the hot pink was screaming to be made into something that would really make it pop.

Mama did an amazing job at styling baby S, the tutu and headband match perfectly.

I was also given a special request to make this owl sleep set. Though it could have definitely been made longer, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

I can't wait to see how she grows with her blanket, when I'm making them I always envision toddlers waddling around dragging the blanket behind them. I love that something I made will become a part of their child hood and their memories for years to come.

It's not such a bad legacy to leave behind.

I've been hooking up a storm

After deciding last week to open up my sales to online as well as in person sales, I have been working like a mad woman to stock my etsy shop.

My Pop of Color collection is one of my favorite, I love how the vintage granny square gets such a facelift, simply with the addition of a modern color pallet.

I am hoping to have an update with quite a few ready made blankets to choose from.

If you are interested in one of this months remaining custom spots, please email me (located int he contact me tab) and we go over the details.

Granny Square Blanket | Pop of Colour

Welcome 2016 and the year of the Baby!

Last year was the year of the Wedding for me. I attended more in one year than I have the rest of my life, combined.

This year however is the year of the baby. I know 19 women who are pregnant and a good majority of my friends are due within the next couple of months!

What does this mean--- lots and lots of blankets are being made!

This blanket turned out to be my favourite, out of all the blankets I have ever made.
It has been delivered to an amazing lady and I hope she and her sweet baby girl enjoy it for years to come.

It is a simple Granny Square blanket.

I just love the pops of hot pink and how it turned out.
