Follow Your Arrow KAL

One of my goals for 2014 is to knit a shawl, it will be my first and I have been poring over pages and pages of patterns on Ravelry trying to decided which to make first. I’m not the most experience knitter, quite frankly I’ve pretty much only made scarves and Christmas Stockings to this point (other than a pair of socks I’m about to finish) but, I am an adventurous beginner. Super simple patterns get set down and never picked back up and overly complicated frustrate me to the point that they get shoved aside never to be seen or heard from again.

So finding the right pattern is key!

I had made a plan not to buy any Crafting supplies in 2014 (other than needles if I can’t get the correct gauge with the ones I have) so what did I do--- I put in a large yarn order on New Year’s Eve of course!

 I came across Miss Babs online yarn shop and her swoon worthy colour choices. I wasn’t sure what the eventual shawl pattern would call for so I got a few skeins with different weights and contents.

If you want to check out everything I got its updated on my Stash page on Ravelry

So yarn done!

Now I still needed a pattern, and I had been searching since New Year all the way up until yesterday.
That’s when I came across the Follow Your Arrow Mystery Knita Long (KAL) by Ysolda Teague

She has created a shawl pattern that will be in five parts. Once a week starting yesterday, she sends out the new set of patterns and you can choose option A or option B. At the end of the Mystery KAL you will have a pattern that has 32 different outcomes, how cool is that!

Another option is the colour way choices you can choose to work with one or two colours depending on the look you want to achieve and the yarn amounts you have in your stash.

I received the first clue yesterday and am almost positive I’m going to start with Option B for the first clue it has a more rounded shape (which I like) vs. Option A having a more triangular shape. Ysolda has assured us on the group page that each clue no matter which option you choose builds perfectly to the next and though skeptical (lol) I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

Since I started to plan for this KAL yesterday I have had the song Follow Your Arrow by KaceyMusgraves stuck in my head. I even have it on YouTube right now while writing this. I think it’s going to be my theme tune for this KAL.

 I haven’t received my Miss Babs yarn yet but, I have narrowed my choices to two options;

Colour Option 1:

Use two Skeins of "Mayhem" Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply Fingering Babette 100% Superwash Merino. The skeins are 400 yards each so I’ll have lots of wiggle room.

Colour Option 2:

Go with two colours, I would use Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply Fingering Babette 100% Superwash Merino base using the “Mayhem” and “Biker Chick” colour way. Creating a shawl that would be “Biker Chick Mayhem”.

I think I’ll have to wait and see the colours in person. On the monitor they look like them could blend nicely but, we all know monitors can be misleading when looking at yarn!

I’ll try to make regular posts about my progress but, you can always check out my Instagram feed which will give you more of an up-to-date look at what I’m working on daily.
